FOAMGLAS® Compact Roof systems are anti-leak.This is achieved by the unique characteristics of FOAMGLAS® Cellular Glass Insulation which, in itself, is totally impermeable to water and water vapour and therefore acts as a thick water-proof layer in addition to the water-proof membranes used in the construction.
All layers of the roof build up are bonded to each other; FOAMGLAS® itself is bonded to the concrete, metal or timber deck and the joints between the FOAMGLAS® slabs and boards are filled with hot bitumen ensuring a continuous glass substrate.
The waterproof membranes in bitumen, asphalt, single ply or mineral finish are fully bonded to the FOAMGLAS® surface ensuring total protection against leaks. Where applicable, a second membrane is fully bonded to the first.
Even if the waterproof membrane is perforated by installation or maintenance personnel, the roof will not leak and water cannot track between the various layers because of the high level of bonding and because moisture cannot penetrate or track through the insulation itself.
Moisture caused by interstitial condensation can sometimes be interpreted as a leak; FOAMGLAS® Compact Roof without a vapour barrier ensures that interstitial condensation is impossible, the insulation remains dry and provides its full insulation value for the lifetime of the building.
FOAMGLAS® Compact Roofs are anti-leak, sustainable constructions with high ecological credentials. Examples of various roof constructions are shown.
