FOAMGLAS® The BRE have assessed our standard density materials (100 Kg/m3 & 120Kg/m3) which correspond to an On-line Green Guide Rating of ‘A+’ for FOAMGLAS® W+F, and ‘A’ for FOAMGLAS® T4, FOAMGLAS® T4 TAPERED insulation, FOAMGLAS® READY BOARD, FOAMGLAS® FLOOR BOARD  & FOAMGLAS® WALL BOARD.

When carrying out a BREEAM assessment it is possible to use the full range of FOAMGLAS® products because the credits for the selection of insulation are based on the weighted Green Guide rating for the thermal resistance provided by each product in the building. This gives you the freedom as the designer to use FOAMGLAS® products with a higher density were you need to use the other physical properties of FOAMGLAS® such as the compressive strength, fire rating, vapour resistively and thermal mass in your design whilst still achieving significant credit.

No blowing agent is used in the manufacturer of FOAMGLAS®, the cells are approximately 2/3rd vacuum and 1/3rd CO2 and this is a natural formulation caused by a small element of carbon and the oxygen in the glass meeting to form millions of hermetically sealed glass cells, and for this gas, the Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP) = zero . ODP is the ratio of the relative amount of degradation to the ozone layer caused by a particular substance relative to the calculated depletion for the reference gas CFC 11 (ODP = 1.0).

The product is therefore free of CFC’s, HFC’s and HCFC’s.

Under the Code for Sustainable Homes Credit, POL 1, Global War- ming Potential of Insulants, Cellular Glass receives this credit as the blowing agent is deemed to satisfy the criteria of a GWP < 5 as the CO2 within the glass cells has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) = 1

GWP is defined as the potential for global warming that a chemical has relative to 1 unit of carbon dioxide, the primary greenhouse gas. In determining the GWP of the blowing agent, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) methodology using a 100-year Integrated Time Horizon (or ITH) should be applied.

FOAMGLAS® Cellular Glass Insulation is manufactured from a blend of abundant raw materials mixed with 68% recycled glass

(this comprises of post consumer waste, industrial waste from the Fenestry industry and scrap production material), the product is manufactured in a modern manufacturing facility in Belgium where, over the last 10 years, improvements in heat recycling and manufacturing processes have reduced the energy consumption

by 50%.

Pittsburgh Corning, as the manufacturers of FOAMGLAS® Cellular Glass Insulation, meet the strictest European requirements in respect of emissions from production. FOAMGLAS® is manufactured ISO 9001 and is a non-combustible insulation EuroClass A1 – no contribution to fire.

FOAMGLAS® is sold throughout the world and has achieved environmental ratings with a number of internationally recognised organisations and regional standards which reinforce our message on long term sustainability.
